Religious Education

The Religious Education curriculum at MacKillop College is based on the Bathurst Catholic Education Office units of work titled The Christ We Proclaim for Years 7 to 10, while the Stage 6 program for Years 11 and 12 is the Board of Studies Course Studies of Religion.

The Christ We Proclaim is a program of work that follows the units of the same name implemented in the Primary schools in the Diocese. Each year group completes the units for that year, complete with assessment tasks that enhance learning and monitor the progress and development of skills and knowledge. These units are complemented by a Reflection Day for each year group, class Masses and liturgies and full school ceremonies to mark significant occasions in the College calendar.

Studies of Religion is offered at a 1 Unit and 2 Unit level for both the Preliminary and HSC years. The present course was reviewed and implemented in 2006, with the first HSC examination in the new course in 2007. At present, all students in Stage 6 study this course which examines the Nature and Origin of Religion, Religion in Australia post-1945, and examines significant features and teachings of selected world religions, including Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism. Students in both senior years enjoy a three-day retreat experience at Collaroy (11) and Vision Valley (12).

Students at MacKillop College are encouraged to be active in the Parish by completing courses for Eucharistic Minister or for Readers and Commentators. They are encouraged to be involved in College Masses and Liturgies which take place at lunchtime every Wednesday or contribute to activities, such as the Ash Wednesday liturgy or Holy Week ceremonies led by their Year groups.

The Religious Education program at MacKillop College aims to provide every student with an educational experience that will enhance their knowledge and encourage participation in a wide range of activities that will enhance their spiritual development.
